Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) got a new students association on Thursday which vowed to improve relations between the students and officials and make PAU a leading institute.
The new Punjab Agricultural University Students Association (PAUSA) will be led by Birinder Singh Sidhu while Parminder Gujjar will be the Vice-President.
The post of General Secretary has been given to Jagdeep Kaur while that of Joint Secretary has been given to Gurinder Singh Cheema. The post of spokesperson for PAUSU was given to Jagpreet Singh, Sports Secretary to Taranjit Singh, Cultural Secretary to Sikander Singh and Treasurer to Harmanpreet Singh Pannu.
Amongst the college representatives, Jasdeep Singh Toor will head the College of Agricultural while Jasmandeep Singh will head the College of Agricultural Engineering, Rajdeep Singh will head the College of Basic Sciences and Humanities while Divya Narang will head the College of Home Science.
Birinder Singh Sidhu addressed the gathering of students, “Formation of students associations and unions is a fundamental right provided by the constitution of the country, safeguarded by the Supreme Court.
“But we also understand our duty of acting responsibly towards the betterment of this university. The prevalent image of the students associations and unions is that of notoriety, which would go out for strikes against the authority. We would like to change this image. PAU is our home, and we have, and we always will live here as a family. We would like to work hand in hand with the authority for the betterment of this place. “We support steps, such as “Green Pedals”, which ensures environment friendliness. We will take up all our issues with authority.”
“The issue of hostel accommodation will be taken up with the authorities, so that students can have accommodations as soon as possible. The matter of having a cafeteria which serves breakfast, lunch will also be discussed with the authorities. We will request the Punjab government to advertise the ports of agricultural development officers (ADO’s), horticulture development officers (HDO’s) and soil conservation officers (SCO’s) which were promised by the government as soon as possible so that our unemployed agricultural graduates may be adjusted,” he added.
