VADODARA 2011 - 62 students clear CA exams

The city witnessed a dramatic improvement in the number of students clearing chartered accountancy exams as the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) declared the results on Tuesday. Compared to last year when only five per cent students had cleared CA final exams, this year the total pass per cent is up to 16 with 62 students clearing the exams.

Results of common proficiency test (CPT) have also improved this year. A total of 396 candidates from the city had appeared for the CA final exams in both groups - group I and group II - of which 62 cleared the exams giving the total pass percent of 16.

Of the 568 candidates who had appeared for CA final in group I, 138 cleared the exam giving the pass percent of 24 which was 18 last year.

In the CA final group II, 77 out of 632 candidates, who had appeared for the exams, cleared it, giving 12 percent exam result - which has also marginally improved by two percent.

A total of 307 students cleared CPT giving the pass percent of 26 - up by four per cent compared to last year. As many as 1,201 students had appeared for the CPT.

"It seems the overall results have improved compared to the previous exam of November 2010 as students were given 15 minutes extra time to understand the question paper during the exams which were held in May 2011," vice-chairman of Baroda branch of Western Indian Regional Council of ICAI Pradeep Agrawal told TOI.

"I was always inclined to pursue a career as a CA," said 22-year-old Kunal Suraiya, who stood first in CA finals in the city and his All India rank was 50.

Krati Sankhlecha, who scored 183 out of 200 marks, stood first in CPT in the city and her all India rank was tenth. "I had no specific plans for the test. Now, I will start preparing for the finals," said 17-year-old Krati. As results started pouring in, those who cleared the finals started spreading messages in the city. "I passed!, I passed!!", read a message from a city-based working women Neha Saiyan, adding that getting the suffix of being "CA" sounded good. Similar was the excitement for parents of another candidate Jay Doshi.

For twins, Dhara and Bhavina Rajyaguru, it was a day to rejoice as both of them cleared their CA finals on the same day. In fact, the Rajyaguru family has more to rejoice as the family has now three girls who have became CA. Earlier, Srujal - elder sister of Dhara and Bhavina - too had cleared her CA.
