PANJAB University PU 2011 -PU okays affiliation; BA, BEd students relieved

The issue of affiliation of the BA, BEd course in the Panjab University (PU) turned into a major protest as the 31 final year students of the four-year integrated course, of which 28 are girls, demanded action for the delay in seventh and eighth semester results.

The students who have threatened to sit on a hunger strike if their issue was not heard and resolved by the authorities called off the protest when the Vice Chancellor Prof R C Sobti assured them that a petition would be filed in the court on Tuesday seeking permission for the declaration of results.

The students were also assured that they can apply and would be eligible for admission in any of the department based on their merit list. The V-C even assured that if required, additional seats would be created to accommodate these students.

The students strongly condemned the lackluster role of the PU authorities and took exception to the fact that that their own university and its departments were making fun of their four years of hard work by not accepting their admission forms on the pretext that it lacks affiliation.
