Amravati University 2011 -Students dispersed by police at Amravati University
Amravati university students' woes do not seem to be ending, as an agitation staged by National Students Union of India and Youth Congress activists was dispersed forcefully by the police. This agitation, pressing various demands of the students, was held after BBA students had held a protest a few days ago.

Hundreds of students from NSUI and Youth Congress staged the agitation in the university premises. They demanded the carry-on facility for engineering students as the university is to declare results within 45 days. Students locked the university exit and entrance gate, demanding a meeting with the vice chancellor Mohan Khedkar. The registrar of the university Dinesh Kumar Joshi then called the police to disperse the students.

Frejarpura police and QRT squads came at spot and dispersed students from the spot, threatening them with the cane. Then a delegation consisting of five students met Khedkar and put forth their demand for carry on facility for BE students. This enables students who failed in their first and second year to sit through their yearly examination.

NSUI member Sagar Deshmukh said "The university has given carry-on facility to MBA students and as syllabus has changed, BE students should also be given the same facility." Students also pointed out that while the VC's residence is being renovated, nothing is being done to construct a shed near the finance department where students queue up to pay their fees. Visibly upset at the VC's reluctance to understand their problems, they asked why they had to resort to police force to disperse the students.

Police Inspector Satyanarayan Jaiswal of Frejarpura police station told TOI that Joshi had told him to use force to disperse students. However, Joshi denied it saying, "I only called the police but did not tell them to use force. I told them that the VC will not come to meet students but five students can meet the VC to highlight their problems."

After listening to the students, Joshi assured them that the decision about their demands will be declared on Tuesday after convening a meeting with the principals.
