West Bengal Municipal Election Results 2010 and Kolkata Municipal Corporation Election 2010 are underway

Trinamul Congress won 95 seats (a huge gain of 53 seats from the previous election) of Kolkata Municipal Corporation's 141 seats in the elections to 81 civic bodies across West Bengal, including that to the KMC. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) won 33 seats (a loss of 42 seats). The congress won 10 seats (a loss of 5 seats) and others 3. The average turnout in the elections that were held on Sunday was nearly 75 per cent in most parts.

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee described the result as people's victory. She added that the CPI-M government had no moral right to continue in power and challenged Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee to dissolve the Assembly and go back to the people.
